What it is

The Korg Minilogue, released in 2016, brought genuine polyphonic analog synthesis to an accessible price and became one of the best-selling modern synths. Four voices, two oscillators each, a resonant analog filter, an onboard sequencer, and a little oscilloscope display make it a capable, hands-on instrument for pads, leads, and basses. The line expanded with the Minilogue XD (adding a digital multi-engine and effects), so the name now covers two related but different instruments.

Buying one used — what to check

This is a current, solidly built synth, so used buying is low-risk — the main thing is knowing which one you're getting: the original Minilogue and the Minilogue XD differ meaningfully in features and price, and titles sometimes just say Minilogue. On any unit, check the keys and the encoders (heavily used ones can wear), confirm the sequencer and all four voices work, and make sure it includes the correct power supply. Because these are recent, firmware is usually not an issue, but it's worth confirming the unit powers up cleanly and holds its patches.

Regional sourcing notes

Korg is Japanese, so the Minilogue is everywhere in Japan's used market and often the best-value place to buy — Yahoo Auctions, Mercari, and Hard Off list both the original and XD regularly, frequently below Western retail. Domestic units are 100V, though the external adapter is easy to substitute. In Japanese listings search コルグ (Korg) and ミニローグ (Minilogue) or Minilogue, and read condition terms — 動作確認済み (tested working), 整備済み (serviced), 美品 (excellent), against ジャンク (junk) and 未確認 (untested). Brrtz scans Japanese and Western sources together so you can pin the exact model and the best price in one pass.
